magnetic Jahn-Teller effect

The so-called "magnetic Jahn-Teller effect" has been postulated for several years now to explain the lifting of the ground-state degeneracy in half-integer antiferromagnetic spin triangles.

We tried to assess its nature in the highly symmetric [Fe₃O(O₂CPh)₆(py)₃]ClO₄·py using SQUID magnetometry and EPR spectroscopy.
